Dear Families,
Welcome to a new school year! This week we are introducing numerous academic areas to the children as well as expectations and procedures for time management and etiquette. Some of this week's studies include SRAs, letter writing, learning/ reviewing how to make an outline, math computation of basic operations, math word problems, "Why Study History?", dictation, Latin, "Welcome to Science!", Dr. Montessori's Great Lesson on the "Fable of Creation", other cultures' fables of creation, and much more!
Additionally, the children are being assessed for small group placements; those small group lessons will begin next week. Because we have not had Encore this week, the work cycles have been longer than what your student may be accustomed. Your child may begin to tire by the end of the week, especially those new to the 9-12 level.
Many of you have expressed concern over our "big" classroom; we have certainly felt the space constraints this week as we are adjusting to 34 students plus the two (2) of us. The children are rising to the challenge of careful movement, respecting one another's space, and purposeful work.
***We have attached a 9-12 computer contract; after reading it with your child, please return it to the class. Also, attached is a brief note from our room parent, Margaret Heifferon, who has created a fantastic class blog for us! Thank you, Margaret, for all your hard work and commitment!
Thank you for sharing your children with us! We love getting to know them! Please feel free to contact us at any time!
Amy and Darla
***NOTE: This posted message was originally sent home with students August 29, 2012. Please contact Mrs. Prescott and/or Mrs. Smigel for a copy of the computer contract, if needed. Thanks, Margaret
