Peace, Progress and Practice

Dear Families,

This week we are finishing our impressionistic lessons of the Timeline of Life, researching and writing about a geological period prior to man, introducing the Timeline of Early Humans, talking about peace and peacefulness, and of course learning about fractions, math, geometry, language, Latin, dictation, and daily reading.

For the first time this year, we have highlighted your student’s progress report. As a reminder, highlights indicate missed opportunities your child had to progress by practicing their follow up assignments. If a student chooses not to complete his (her) work (some forget; some procrastinate; some make good choices while others are learning from their choices), he simply repeats that lesson the following week. Dr. Montessori considered the “practicing” phase the time where most learning occurs; it is where the student internalizes or “owns” the concept(s) he is taught before moving to the next concept. Therefore, it is imperative that we give the opportunity to each child the practicing or follow-up phase of each lesson.

If you or your child is upset or has questions about his highlights this week, please feel free to contact us. Again, highlights are a form of communication between parents and teachers; while they do provide insights into your child’s day, they are not necessarily to be viewed as a comprehensive look of your child’s progress. Thank you!

If your child has an excused absence, please do send in a note, documenting why he missed school. We pass the notes on to the office where the excused absences are documented.

We have attached some of your child’s 5-minute math worksheets as we deem it valuable for your student to know his math facts with accuracy and speed. For our 6th grade parents, there is also attached some inoculation information.

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather!

Amy and Darla
