Week of February 11

Dear Families,

This week we are continuing our research of 20th century North Carolina, learning about our solar system, and exploring the "Walk of the Planets." Some of the children are beginning to read novels such as The Giver and Because of Winn Dixie for their literature circle studies.

This morning, we enjoyed hosting Wayne and Barbara Meyers, long time missionaries to Swaziland. The Meyers intrigued us all, sharing about their lives with and love for the Swazi people. Mr. Meyers spoke to and read to us in Siswati as well as taught us a song and dance. Although their lives in Swaziland differ vastly from ours, we were reminded again how small our world is and how connected we are with all humanity.

Thank you so much for your contributions for our "linens and things" basket for the Auction Fundraiser -- Fiesta! We did not paint the furniture to house our linens after all, but rather chose a large wicker-like basket. The basket is handsome, filled with lovely linens and related items. If you would still like to contribute, we can simply add other donations to our basket. Thank you!

We still need newspapers for our upcoming science project. You may send them in at your convenience.

Thank you for all you do,
Amy and Darla

Thursday, February 14 is Valentine's Day and exchanging Valentines is voluntary. If participating, please include all students. Thank you.
